As the cheek area becomes droopy and loses volume over time, the area underneath the eyes appears hollow and develops dark circles, causing a tired look and the appearance of under-eye bags.
Loss of volume and elasticity of the muscles, fat and bone around the eyes and face naturally occurs as part of the ageing process. This leads to wrinkles in the skin and hollows around the eyes (tear trough). The most common areas in the face where wrinkles appear are the forehead (glabella and frown lines), crow’s feet and bunny lines. As the cheek area becomes droopy and loses volume, the area underneath the eyes appears hollow and develops a tired appearance.

There are a number of effective solutions and treatments available that can refresh the appearance of the face, reduce lines and wrinkles, and smooth the skin to give a more youthful glow.
Non-surgical treatments include Botulinum Toxin Treatment and fillers, which reduce the appearance of lines and replace lost volume in the tissue. Tear trough fillers are a popular treatment that can reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eyes and rejuvenate the under-eye area without the need for surgery.

Sometimes, eyelid surgery is necessary to achieve the desired result. Surgery is often a popular choice for patients who have already tried the non-surgical route, or who have more serious eye bags. Lower blepharoplasty surgery can correct excessive loose skin and eye bags, reducing the tired eye appearance that many patients with heavy eyelids experience.

Generally, there are two different approaches to repositioning or removing the shadows under the eyes, excess skin, fat, and weak muscles in the lower eyelid.
For younger people, where fat bulges are the main concern and the lower eyelid skin is not wrinkled, an incision is made through the inner surface of the eyelid (transconjunctival approach), which hides the scar.
If loose skin and muscle also need to be removed, a small incision just beneath the eyelash line can be made (transcutaneous approach). This allows the lower eyelid bags to be tightened if needed. The skin incision is then closed with sutures or glue.

Alcohol can dehydrate your skin and irritate the delicate skin around your eyes, making them appear sunken and tired.
Dehydration can cause dark circles or eye bags to appear beneath your eyes. The UK Government advises drinking between 6-8 glasses, or 1.2 litres of water per day.
When you are stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol. This can lead to inflammation, which can affect the appearance of your eyes and cause eye bags.
The cost of removing eye bags will depend on your treatment type. Please visit our prices page to find your desired treatment. We also recommend looking at our finance page, for assistance with splitting your treatment costs.
