Rabia Bourkiza’s areas of expertise include vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina, and cataract surgery including complex cataracts and advanced lens implantation.
She obtained her medical degree from Leeds Medical School with several distinctions and prizes. She undertook her 7-year specialist training in Ophthalmology in London, rotating through Moorfields Eye Hospitals for 4 years. She then developed a sub-specialist interest in retina and was selected for two advanced retinal surgical fellowships and one medical retina fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where she was subsequently appointed as a locum consultant in vitreoretinal surgery.
Her main NHS base is at London North West University NHS Trust, where she established a robust vitreoretinal service attracting referrals from other west London hospitals. She is also involved in a number of retinal clinical trials, and authored 16 peer reviewed articles in international journals. She is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth), British and Eyre Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons (BEAVRS), and the American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).
She was appointed as College Tutor by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2019.
