What is LASIK Surgery?

At OCL Vision, LASIK laser eye correction is our most commonly performed treatment.

LASIK, which stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a state-of-the-art procedure that corrects vision using the very latest, AI driven laser technology.

Our fast and gentle lasers provide greater accuracy, making the treatment safe and minimising impact on the eye. OCL Vision only uses the fastest lasers available for all LASIK procedures.

Find out if you are suitable

Your vision works by allowing light to enter through the cornea (the eye's front part) and focus on the retina. This information is then sent to the brain via the optic nerve.

Poor eyesight typically results from eyeballs that are either too long or too short relative to the cornea's size. Long eyeballs cause images to focus in front of the retina, leading to short-sightedness, while short eyeballs cause images to focus behind the retina, leading to long-sightedness.

Our LASIK eye treatment is a completely bladeless, wavefront aberration-free procedure carried out using the world’s fastest and most accurate laser combination. This precision reshapes your corneas, ensuring light focuses directly on your retinas. The result is clear vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

What to Expect at Your Initial Consultation

Your initial visit to OCL Vision is designed to be thorough, personalised, and reassuring. During your consultation, you’ll receive a detailed assessment of your eye health, along with expert guidance on the best treatment options for your individual needs. Next, you will meet one of our expert optometrists for a full visual assessment. This includes measuring your vision, eye pressure and refraction to ensure we have a complete understanding of your visual needs.

They will review your scan results and visual assessment, discuss your goals and expectations, and explain any suitable treatment options. You will have time to ask questions and receive expert advice tailored to your individual case.

LASIK FAQ's

View knowledge base

Is LASIK surgery for eyes painful?

Most people report minimal discomfort during LASIK surgery. Numbing eye drops are used to prevent pain during the procedure. You may experience mild irritation or a gritty feeling in their eyes for a few hours after the surgery, but this typically subsides quickly.

How long does it take to recover from LASIK surgery?

The recovery time for LASIK surgery is generally very quick. Most people notice an improvement in their vision within 6 hours. It is common to experience minor fluctuations in vision during the first few days to weeks as the eyes heal. You can return to normal activities within a day or two.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with LASIK?

While LASIK is considered a safe and effective procedure, like any surgery, it carries some risks and potential side effects. These may include dry eyes, glare, halos around lights, and under- or over-correction of vision. Serious complications are extremely rare but still treatable, and a thorough pre-surgical evaluation can help minimise these risks. LASIK is often considered safer than wearing contact lenses due to several factors. Unlike contact lenses, which carry risks of infection, irritation, and long-term complications from daily use, surgery offers a one-time, permanent solution with a high success rate and minimal risk of infection.  Discussing your medical history and concerns with our expert surgeons can help ensure the best outcome.

What is the cost of a laser vision correction consultation?

Our consultations are free subject to a £50 refundable booking deposit.
