Career highlights

Mark has an active interest in research, having done a research fellowship at the Institute of Ophthalmology, UCL with over 90 publications in laser refractive surgery as well as cornea and cataract surgery to date. He has set up multiple randomised controlled trials in cataract and glaucoma surgery, including being the chief investigator for the FACT trial, looking at femtosecond laser use in cataract surgery. A pioneer in the field, he set up the Keratoprosthesis service at Moorfields, using artificial corneas to treat corneal blindness. He is now pushing boundaries and challenging dogma in corneal transplant surgery by practicing novel suture-less, posture-less, endothelial corneal transplant surgery.

An active member of several societies, he often presents at national and international conferences, including European and American Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (UKISCRS, ESCRS, ASCRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). He also holds the Certificate in Laser Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (Cert LRS).
