Iris Implant Surgery
Restore the Natural Look and Function of Your Eye with Our Custom Iris Implants
Iris implant surgery is an advanced ophthalmic procedure designed to address functional issues related to iris defects or absence. This innovative treatment offers hope for patients with congenital or acquired iris abnormalities.
Book a ConsultationAt OCL Vision, we specialise in corrective surgeries for iris and pupil abnormalities using advanced solutions like the HumanOptics Customflex Artificial Iris Implant.
Whether due to developmental conditions like iris coloboma or aniridia, or as a result of trauma, our iris implants are designed to restore both function and appearance.
What is an Iris Implant?
An iris implant is a medical device designed to correct defects in the iris or pupil.
We use the Customflex HumanOptics Artificial Iris, which is FDA-approved and CE-marked for repairing iris abnormalities.
This bespoke implant is tailored to match the colour and detail of your natural iris, providing a natural appearance and improved functionality.
The implant is made from medical-grade silicone, which is bio-inert, ensuring compatibility with the eye. It can be introduced through a small incision during a standalone procedure or in conjunction with cataract or lens fixation surgery.
Types of Iris Implants
We offer the Customflex HumanOptics Artificial Iris, which is specifically designed for the repair of iris defects. This implant requires that lens replacement surgery be performed at the same time.
Please Note: OCL Vision does not offer cosmetic iris implants for the purpose of changing eye colour.
For younger patients or those with coloboma, alternative repair methods may be more suitable, such as direct suturing of the iris tissue.

They will review your scan results and visual assessment, discuss your goals and expectations, and explain any suitable treatment options. You will have time to ask questions and receive expert advice tailored to your individual case.
After Your Consultation, Before Surgery
If your consultant confirms that you're suitable for surgery, our dedicated Patient Liaison Team will be on hand to support you every step of the way. They’ll guide you through the next stages of the process, ensuring you feel fully informed, prepared, and confident moving forward.
1. Discuss Surgery Dates and Costs
You will meet with a member of our Patient Liaison Team to review the next stages. They will discuss pricing, available procedure dates and any bespoke considerations based on your consultant’s recommendations.

4. Settle Your Balance in Advance
Any outstanding balance must be cleared at least three weeks before surgery. If you are using private medical insurance, please ensure we have your valid authorisation code within this timeframe.
5. Prepare for Surgery Day
To ensure your procedure goes smoothly:
- Stop wearing contact lenses in the days or weeks before surgery, as advised by your consultant
