Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a highly effective cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes by addressing drooping eyelids, eye bags, and excess skin.

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the eyelids.

It involves the removal or repositioning of excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids.

This procedure is designed to address issues such as drooping upper eyelids, under-eye bags, and sagging skin, which can make you look tired or older than you feel. Blepharoplasty can also enhance vision by removing sagging skin that may obstruct the visual field.

Brow Recontouring

Enhance Your Eyes and Restore a Youthful Look

As we age, the descent of facial tissues, including the eyebrows, often contributes to what patients perceive as upper eyelid heaviness or sagging. This brow descent can impart a tired or stern appearance. Brow re-contouring surgery aims to counteract these changes, opening up the eyes and leading to a more youthful, rested look.

Types of Brow Lift:

  1. Toxin Brow Lift: For patients without severe facial ageing seeking a subtle lift, muscle-relaxing injections can achieve a slight elevation of the brow. The brow arch is lifted into a higher position by weakening the depressor muscles that pull the eyebrows downward. This method also smooths out frown lines across the brow. Results are temporary, lasting between three and six months.
  2. Hidden or Internal Brow Lift (Browpexy): An alternative to the surgical brow lift or toxin brow lift is the hidden or internal brow lift, also known as a browpexy.
  3. Direct Brow Lift: A meticulously created fine-line incision just on the edge of the eyebrow can provide effective recontouring of the brow position and shape in select patients. This approach is particularly beneficial for those with significant brow sagging or asymmetry. While there will be a scar, it is carefully placed to be least noticeable and typically flattens when healed. Patients can return to normal activities within two weeks as bruising and swelling subside. Results can last up to a decade.

Blepharoplasty surgery is typically performed under local anaesthesia, with or without sedation, depending on your specific needs and preferences.

Upper blepharoplasty and brow rejuvenation work together to enhance the appearance of the upper face, restoring a more youthful and refreshed look. These procedures offer both aesthetic and functional benefits:

  • Brighter, More Open Eyes: By removing excess skin from the upper eyelids and lifting the brows, the eyes appear more open and alert, reducing the look of tiredness or heaviness.
  • Youthful Brow Position: A brow lift repositions sagging eyebrows, restoring balance and improving facial harmony.
  • Reduction of Forehead Wrinkles & Frown Lines: Elevating the brows helps smooth horizontal forehead lines and frown lines, contributing to a more relaxed and refreshed appearance.
  • Improved Vision: In cases where drooping eyelids obstruct vision, upper blepharoplasty can remove excess skin, enhancing the field of view.
  • Long-Lasting Results: The effects of these procedures are enduring, providing a rejuvenated appearance for many years.

Consultation

Bespoke Consultation

This is an opportunity for patients to discuss all their eyelid concerns with the surgeon, allowing for a collaborative approach in developing the best plan to achieve their desired results. Reviewing old photographs can often be beneficial, as it provides the surgeon with a clearer understanding of the patient’s natural eyelid shape and structure. This helps in achieving a natural, refreshed outcome during surgery.

Blepharoplasty FAQ's

View knowledge base

Am I a suitable candidate for blepharoplasty?

To determine if you are a good candidate for eye bag removal surgery, there are several factors that need to be considered including:

  • General health: You should be in good health without any serious medical conditions that could impair your healing.
  • Eye health: It is important that you do not have any eye conditions such as glaucoma or dry eye syndrome.

Are the results of cosmetic eye surgery permanent?

While cosmetic eye surgery can provide long-lasting results, it does not stop the natural aging process. Procedures like blepharoplasty and ptosis correction can significantly improve appearance for many years, but factors such as skin elasticity, lifestyle, and genetics will continue to influence your appearance over time. Regular maintenance treatments and good skincare can help prolong the results.

What are the potential risks and side effects of cosmetic eye surgery?

As with any surgical procedure, cosmetic eye surgery carries potential risks and side effects. These may include infection, scarring, dry eyes, difficulty closing the eyes, and changes in vision. Non-surgical treatments may have side effects like bruising, swelling, and temporary discomfort. It is crucial to discuss all potential risks with your surgeon and follow their pre- and post-operative care instructions to minimise complications and ensure the best possible outcome.
