Lower Eyelid Laxity Surgery: Restore Your Eyelid Function and Appearance from just £44*/month

Book a Consultation

As we age, the muscles and fat around our eyelids lose volume and elasticity, causing the eyelids to become loose and droopy.

This condition, known as eyelid laxity, can lead to discomfort and potential damage to the eyes. Eyelid laxity surgery is designed to restore the eyelids to their correct position, protecting your eyes and improving your appearance.

What is eyelid laxity surgery?

Eyelid laxity surgery is a procedure to correct loose eyelids, ensuring they return to their proper position to protect the eyes from damage.

This condition can manifest as either ectropion (outward turning of the eyelid) or entropion (inward turning of the eyelid).

The surgery enhances the eyelid's appearance and prevents further eye irritation and potential injury.

Eyelid laxity conditions

Ectropion and Entropion: What is the difference?

Book a Consultation

Ectropion

This condition occurs when the eyelid turns outward, exposing the inner eyelid surface and causing dryness, irritation, and potential damage to the cornea.

Entropion

In this case, the eyelid turns inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye, leading to discomfort, irritation, and potential injury to the cornea.

Eyelid Correction surgery is typically performed under local anaesthesia, with or without sedation, depending on your specific needs and preferences.

Discover the benefits of Lower Eyelid Laxity Surgery

Lower eyelid laxity surgery, also known as lateral canthal tightening, offers several benefits for individuals experiencing sagging or laxity of the lower eyelids:

Get a quote

  • Improved Lower Eyelid Position: The procedure tightens the lower eyelid, restoring its natural position and preventing it from turning outward (ectropion) or sagging excessively.
  • Enhanced Tear Drainage: By correcting eyelid laxity, the surgery can improve the function of the tear drainage system, reducing symptoms like watery eyes.
  • Reduced Risk of Exposure Keratopathy: Proper eyelid positioning helps protect the cornea from dryness and irritation, decreasing the risk of exposure-related eye conditions.
  • Improved Aesthetic Appearance: Tightening the lower eyelid can lead to a more youthful and refreshed look, enhancing overall facial harmony.

By addressing lower eyelid laxity, this surgical intervention not only improves eye function but also contributes to a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Consultation

Bespoke Consultation

This is an opportunity for patients to discuss all their eyelid concerns with the surgeon, allowing for a collaborative approach in developing the best plan to achieve their desired results. Reviewing old photographs can often be beneficial, as it provides the surgeon with a clearer understanding of the patient’s natural eyelid shape and structure. This helps in achieving a natural, refreshed outcome during surgery.

Eyelid laxity surgery FAQ's

View knowledge base

What is the recovery period like after eyelid laxity surgery?

Swelling and bruising are normal following eyelid surgery. This typically starts to settle after 2-3 weeks, though some individuals may experience longer recovery times. Using ice packs for the first 10 days can help reduce swelling. Frozen peas in a small plastic bag, covered with a thin cloth, can be an effective ice pack. Apply it gently to the wound up to six times a day without rubbing or placing pressure on the area. For the first seven days, sleeping semi-upright with several pillows under your head can also help manage swelling.

When can I return to work after eyelid laxity surgery?

Recovery time varies, but we advise resting for the first few days’ post-surgery. You can work from home on a computer after two days, ensuring you keep your eyes well-lubricated with the prescribed eye drops. Most people can return to work after 10 days following surgery to correct eyelid laxity.

How long do the results of eyelid laxity surgery last?

The results of eyelid laxity surgery are typically long-lasting. However, the natural ageing process will continue, and some patients may experience a recurrence of eyelid laxity over time. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and protecting your eyes from excessive sun exposure can help prolong the results.
