Find out more about the process of removal of eye cysts, from initial consultation to aftercare and recovery.

Consultation

Bespoke Consultation

This is an opportunity for patients to discuss all their eyelid concerns with the surgeon, allowing for a collaborative approach in developing the best plan to achieve their desired results. Reviewing old photographs can often be beneficial, as it provides the surgeon with a clearer understanding of the patient’s natural eyelid shape and structure. This helps in achieving a natural, refreshed outcome during surgery.

Treatment

Personalised Treatment

At OCL Vision, we believe in a personalised approach, recognising that each person’s facial aesthetics and goals are unique. Our expert surgeons take the time to understand your concerns and will guide you through the most suitable treatment options to help you achieve a refreshed, natural-looking result. Together, we will develop a tailored surgical plan that best meets your needs, ensuring you feel confident and well-informed every step of the way.

Surgery

Preparing for surgery

Our team will guide you through any necessary paperwork and explain how to use your post-operative eye drops, as well as how to best look after your eyes in the days and weeks following surgery. You will meet your surgeon again before the procedure and have ample opportunity to ask any questions.

Procedure

Procedure

When you arrive for your appointment, our experienced, friendly, and empathetic team of nurses will welcome you and put you at ease. During the surgery, your surgeon will reassure you and talk you through each step, helping you feel calm and in control. Please expect there to be some swelling and bruising, we advise you to use ice packs.

Aftercare

Aftercare & Results

Follow-up appointments are key to ensuring a smooth recovery, with your surgeon monitoring progress and addressing any concerns. Swelling and bruising are normal and usually subside within a couple of weeks. We recommend using cold compresses, keeping your head elevated while sleeping, and avoiding strenuous activities for at least two weeks. Eyelid Cysts FAQ's

View knowledge base

What can I expect during the recovery period after eyelid cyst surgery?

Swelling and bruising are normal following eyelid surgery and should start to settle 1-2 weeks after surgery. In some people, it can take longer to settle. We recommend you use ice packs for the first 10 days following eyelid surgery. Frozen peas placed in a small plastic bag and covered in a thin cloth can be an effective ice pack. This can then be gently placed on the wound up to 6 times a day, without rubbing or placing any pressure on the wound.

How should I sleep after eyelid cyst removal surgery?

A: For the first 7 days after surgery, sleeping semi-upright with several pillows placed underneath your head will help the swelling to settle. You will be given eye shields to cover your eyes at night to protect the wounds while you are sleeping.

When can I resume exercise and other activities?

Anything more than gentle exercise (like walking) should be avoided for at least 2 weeks following surgery. Swimming should be avoided for at least 6 weeks post-operatively. Make-up can be worn again 3-4 weeks after surgery. As the eyelid wounds heal, they may become “itchy” – it is important not to rub your eyes or eyelids following surgery. Contact lens wear should also be avoided for the first 2 weeks after surgery.

When can I return to work after eyelid cyst surgery?

Recovery time varies, but we advise you to rest for the first few days after surgery. Working from home on a computer should be fine after 2 days, but it is important to keep your eyes well-lubricated with the eyedrops that you have been given. Most patients who have undergone surgery for benign eyelid cysts can return to work after 1-2 days but following the procedure, it is advisable to take 2 weeks off work.
