Glaucoma needs regular monitoring even when it’s stable. Catching small changes early is what protects your sight in the long run. Our Virtual Glaucoma Monitoring Programme gives you access to consultant-level oversight through a technology-led pathway, built around your schedule.

All care is led by our Glaucoma Consultant Ophthalmologist. Your diagnostic results are reviewed by them personally, with a full clinical letter sent to you afterwards. You get specialist care without needing to sit in a waiting room.

What’s Included?

Every appointment includes the same full set of diagnostic tests, carried out by our trained ophthalmic technicians and reviewed by your consultant.

If you’re interested in understanding more about glaucoma, open-angle glaucoma and closed-angle glaucoma, please read our knowledge base.

  • Intraocular Pressure (IOP): Eye pressure is measured in both eyes and compared with previous readings to detect any upward trends early.
  • Visual Acuity: Distance and near vision are assessed against your baseline to monitor any changes in sight.
  • Ultra-Widefield Imaging (Optos): Advanced wide-angle retinal and optic nerve imaging helps identify any new structural changes.
  • OCT Optic Disc and RNFL: Detailed optic nerve and nerve fibre layer scans are compared with past results to track progression over time.
  • OCT Macula: Macular and ganglion cell analysis monitors subtle changes that glaucoma may cause over the long term.
  • Visual Field Test: Peripheral vision is tested and compared with previous results to detect any functional changes.
  • Consultant Review: Every result is personally reviewed by a consultant ophthalmologist, with a full clinical letter sent within 10 working days.
  • Urgent Escalation: If prompt attention is needed, you will be contacted directly and arranged for a face-to-face appointment without delay.

4 simple steps

How it works

Our Virtual Glaucoma Monitoring Programme is designed to make ongoing glaucoma care straightforward, efficient, and reassuring. From your in-clinic diagnostic scan to consultant review and personalised follow-up, every step is carefully managed to give you specialist oversight with minimal disruption to your daily life.

Book your scan appointment

Choose a date at one of our clinics. The appointment takes around 30 minutes and is run by our ophthalmic technicians. There is no consultation on the day.

Your results are reviewed

Once your scans are uploaded, our Consultant Ophthalmologist reviews them remotely. They look at your results in full, including comparisons to your previous visits.

Receive your letter

A detailed clinical letter is sent by post, to your patient portal or by email within 10 working days. It covers your results, whether your condition is stable, any changes to your treatment and your next review date.

Follow-up if needed

If anything in your results needs closer attention, you will hear from us by phone. For routine stable results, you simply book your next appointment when it is due.

Who Is This Programme For?

This pathway suits patients who:

  • Have stable glaucoma and have been assessed by our Glaucoma Consultant at OCL Vision
  • Have a family history of glaucoma and want regular, structured monitoring
  • Want consultant oversight without attending clinic every few months
  • Are comfortable receiving results and correspondence digitally

This programme is for stable patients only. If your condition is complex or has changed recently, our Glaucoma Consultant will recommend the right pathway for you at your consultation.

COST

How much is Glaucoma Monitoring?

  • If your review shows you need a face-to-face appointment, that visit is charged at 50% of the standard consultation fee, with scans also at 50% off if required. Payment is due at the start of your monitoring year.

Glaucoma Monitoring FAQ's

Will I see a Consultant in person?

Not at every appointment. Your scans are carried out by our ophthalmic technicians and our glaucoma consultant reviews the results remotely. They write your clinical letter personally. If they need to see you in person, they will arrange that directly.

How long will it take to get my results?

Your letter is sent within 10 working days of your scan appointment. If anything urgent comes up during your review, we will call you to advise you of the next steps.

What happens if my glaucoma gets worse?

If your results show signs of progression, we will call you to discuss the findings and arrange an in-person appointment. That visit is charged at 50% of the standard fee. Depending on the outcome, you may continue with virtual monitoring or move to a more frequent in-person schedule.

Do I need to have been seen at OCL Vision before joining?

If your results show signs of progression, we will call you to discuss the findings and arrange an in-person appointment. That visit is charged at 50% of the standard fee. Depending on the outcome, you may continue with virtual monitoring or move to a more frequent in-person schedule.

What if I have a concern between appointments?

Your clinical letter will detail exactly what symptoms to watch for and when to get in touch.
